How to Promote Amateur Radio – According to DuckAI
2026-08-31
This captured thread of AI “advice” is aimed at informing the Society and its members on possible methods of promotion of amateur radio and the amateur radio service. For some years now, the Society has ceased to use Facebook/Meta for a variety of reasons (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Facebook ). In particular note the entry on “Blocking news in Canada”:
In response to the Online News Act, Meta Platforms began blocking access to news sites for Canadian users at the beginning of August 2023.[391][392] This also extended to local Canadian news stories about the wildfires,[393] a decision that was heavily criticized by Trudeau, local government officials, academics, researchers, and evacuees.[394][395][396]
Ollie Williams of Yellowknife's Cabin Radio said that users had to resort to posting screenshots of news stories, as posting news directly would result in the link getting blocked.[396][393]
Meta responded to these criticisms by stating that Canadians "can continue to use our technologies to connect with their communities and access reputable information […] from official government agencies, emergency services and non-governmental organizations," and encouraged them to use Facebook's Safety Check feature.[394][397]
This became an issue during the 2023 evacuation of the South Slave and North Slave regions. The Society is also aware of other controversies including the record of Facebook undermining the democratic process (i.e. Cambridge Analytica). Facebook includes WhatsApp. The Society is therefore very wary of social media.
The networking description below suggests that the objects of the Society are not always independent of one another (i.e. they are not mutually exclusive).
